Jon Jordan has a unique perspective on fire protection. He joined the industry working on fire alarm systems in 1998, and a few years later he followed in his father’s footsteps and became a firefighter-paramedic. Now, he’s one of Harrington Group’s newest fire protection technicians, and we’re lucky to have his dual-sided expertise on the team!

“There’s a huge disconnect between the two disciplines,” says Jon, adding that his work in one field makes him stronger in the other, and vice-versa. “I think most firefighting personnel really don’t give much thought to fire protection engineering. It’s one thing to have systems designed in a certain way, and a whole other piece of the puzzle to have them function and be maintained.”

One of Jon’s primary focuses will be fire alarms and emergency responder radio communications (ERRC), and he says he looks forward to learning more about water-based suppression systems. He’s been in fire protection for more than 20 years and appreciates the ever-changing nature of the field and the satisfaction of providing safety.

“New technology is making buildings safer than what they used to be,” he says. “I like the idea that the work you put in can have a positive outcome in the event of an emergency, and I really enjoy being able to help people out.”

Located in Rowlett, Texas and working remotely for the foreseeable future, Jon didn’t mind the transition to a home office. He certainly doesn’t miss the daily commute into Dallas, and with his firehouse responsibilities taking him out of the house for at least 24 hours at a time, he’s appreciated the opportunity to spend more time at home with his wife and their three kids. When he isn’t working to either prevent or suppress fires, he enjoys all things outdoors such as hiking and camping.
